About me

Why Dragonfly Soul?  In many cultures, the dragonfly symbolises change, transformation and self-realisation.  Change can often be accompanied by mental and emotional maturity, leading to a deeper understanding of ourselves and life.  I believe therapy can be a journey, which can lead to change and transformation, should one be willing to take it.

I am a Person-Centred therapist based in Cornwall.  My aim is to offer a safe, confidential & non-judgmental space to share and explore any issues that are troubling you.  I believe that the therapeutic relationship between therapist and client can prove to be an exceptional way of promoting change and bettering one's life and relationships.

Person-Centred is a client-led approach and much of a relational one, as the therapeutic relationship that continually evolves is at the heart of it and healing can emerge through it.  My aim is to facilitate exploration of what the client brings in the room, which in turn can be facilitated by "relational depth", a deep connection between therapist and client.  It is also to provide clients with a supportive space and the necessary conditions to enhance their healing process.

Beyond my core approach of Person-Centred theory, I have a keen interest in & draw on a range of theoretical concepts, using  a relational model, to facilitate awareness of and connection to different parts of the client's self, their unmet needs and feelings arising from them.

Outside of work, I have been enjoying Conwall's natural beauty for the past 7 years.  Before here, I used to live in Lancashire.  I often find myself taking long walks on coastal paths or exploring the area's numerous public paths.  A good book might often accompany these should the right place be spotted, and we are lucky enough to enjoy the sun's company!  A nice, warm cuppa can give me comfort especially in cold days, and you will be offered one at our face-to-face sessions should you wish to join me.

Experience

Before I qualified as a counsellor, I spent a few years teaching English as a second language to children and young people.  I have also been a support worker to children and adults with disabilities for about 15 years.

As a therapist, I have worked with clients on a wide range of issues and have gained considerable experience in working with clients who experience low self-esteem and self-confidence, depression, anxiety, panic attacks & relational issues, as well as clients who have experienced abuse in childhood or self-harm.  I work both long-term and short-term with clients.

— Carl Rogers

“People are just as wonderful as sunsets if I can let them be … When I
look at a sunset, I don’t find myself saying, ‘Soften the orange a bit on
the right-hand corner’ … I don’t try to control a sunset. I watch with awe
as it unfolds.”
